Parish Council

Parish Councils form the first tier of local government, closer to the community than either District or County. Councillors are elected for a term of four years, the parish poll usually coincides with the District Council election. The number of Councillors a parish can elect depends on the number of voters in the ward, Cropthorne Parish Council comprises 7 councillors and is led by a Chairperson who is selected from members at the annual meeting of the Parish Council in May.

The Parish Council also has a page on the Worcestershire Hub website which is updated automatically.

It has been decided to show some Parish Council information here again, including agendas for upcoming meetings, minutes and contact details.

The Parish Clerk looks after the administration of the Council's business and is the day-to-day point of contact. The current Parish Clerk is Lynne Yapp.

Councillors Declarations of Interest

Each year, members of the Parish Council must make Declarations of Interest if there is any possibility of a conflict between their activities outside of the council and the business of the council. Additionally, at each meeting, members must bring to the attention of the whole council any matter which could present a conflict of interest in the business to be discussed. This could be a planning matter, or some trading relationship.

You can view the declarations on the Parish Council's page of Wychavon District Council Website.

Vacancy for Parish Councillor

There is a vacant position on the Parish Council after the decision of a member not to stand for re-election at the recent polls. The position may be filled by co-option, if anyone is interested in this worthwhile involvement in the running or your village please contact the Parish Clerk.

New Homes Bonus

As a reward, villages receive a grant from Government related to the building of new homes in the area. This scheme is called the New Homes Bonus. More information is available from theWychavon District Council New Homes Bonus page.

This year Cropthorne has been offered £27,936 to spend on a community project in the village. Previously this money has been used to purchase a new bench, defibrillator, speed signs and the sound and vision equipment in the village hall. Two suggestions for this year are: to extend part of the footway (pavement) in Field Barn Lane, in front of the new Homes, and to help with the cost of installing a Toilet and Tea Servery at the Church.

The Parish Council has, on several occasions, asked parishioners for their thoughts on how they would like to see the monies spent, unfortunately with very little feedback so please have a look at the Proposal. If you click on the image below it will open as a clearer version on a blank page.

Council Policies

In line with many other public bodies, Parish Councils must adopt policies to cover most aspects of their business. Cropthorne Parish Council is currently defining these policies and will publish them here for your information. So far seven are available to view:

Minutes of Earlier Meetings

When I first became a Parish Councillor, around 1989, the minutes of meetings were written-up in a book by the Parish Clerk in longhand, or sometimes typed (with a typewriter!) and pasted in the book. Subsequently, the clerk got a computer! From that time, most of the meetings were produced electronically, although occasionally not saved, or were still typewritten.

I have been asked to make these older records available on line so I am creating a "Parish Archive" page to hold these and other historical documents. This is not quite straight forward as converting WordPerfect and old Word documents on floppy disks to PDF may take a little time!

Check the Menu on the left of the screen from time to time to see if the Parish Archive page is available.
